#TakeAMinute
In March of this year, Krissy, Roy, and Vana Pejcinovski were killed at their home in Ajax, Ontario. Their story not only shocked and saddened our city, but our entire country. Krissy, a kind and generous friend, Vana, a bright 13-year old who loved to play all sports, and Roy, a star AAA goalie in the GTHL who had obvious talent and clear potential for a future in hockey.
In memory of a loving mother and her two children whose lives were tragically taken too soon, we are asking you to Take A Minute. Take a minute to tell someone you love them. Take a minute to help a neighbour. Take a minute to pause and appreciate the good in the world.
The boys from The Don Mills Flyers Minor Midget team honour their friends Krissy, Roy and Vana and ask you to Take A Minute.
Please share your videos and stories on Instagram using #TakeAMinute of how you will Take A Minute, and asks 3 friends to do the same. Together we can honour the memories of Krissy, Roy, and Vana, and continue their spirit of generosity and compassion. And if you can please donate to The Pejcinovski Family Memorial Fund.
THE PEJCINOVSKI FAMILY MEMORIAL FUND
Krissy, Roy and Vana lived their lives by a clear and guiding principle – be kind and help others. The Pejcinovski Family Memorial Fund honours their memory and that spirit of compassion and generosity.
Krissy, Roy and Vana touched so many lives, and were loved by all who knew them.
Shortly after their deaths, The Pejcinovski Family Memorial Fund was established through the Toronto Foundation with a goal to build a legacy for Krissy, Roy, and Vana whose lives were cut too short, and to create something positive from this tragedy.
This newly-created fund will support a range of registered charities that focus on causes including domestic violence and children’s initiatives such as sport and play. Domestic violence is a major issue in our country. According to Stats Can, more than one quarter of all reported violent crime resulted from family violence. The fund aims to help families struggling with this issue, and make a positive impact in their lives.
The fund will also honour love of sport, being such an integral part of the Pejcinovski family. For Krissy, a competitive athlete herself, it brought her joy to watch children play. For the kids, it created friendships, taught them leadership and teamwork and instilled a sense of community. So many kids across this country don’t have access to the opportunities that sports provide. It’s estimated that more than one-third of Canadian children can’t afford to play organized sports. The Pejcinovski Family Memorial Fund will help to break down these barriers, and promote a safe future for all Canadians enriched by physical and emotional health.
